Hand Raised Short Billed Corellas are a very intelligent bird with a wonderful talking ability.  They are a very affectionate bird with a sweet personality similar to Galahs.  They can be noisy and the best way to combat this is with plenty of exercise out of the cage and lots of mentally stimulating toys to keep them amused.  Fresh native branches are also a good thing to provide as it gives them something safe to destroy. All our hand raised Corellas are weaned onto fresh fruit and vegetables, our very own Premium Bird Seed Mix and Vetafarm Parrot Essential Pellets.

Hand Raised Sun Conures

Impulse Parrots regularly hand raises baby Sun Conure chicks every breeding season. The chicks are brought into the brooder at 2-3 weeks of age and typically take 8 weeks to wean and be ready for their new homes

Hand Raised Sun Conures make great pets for all ages and love playing with you.  They are very intelligent but can be rather noisy so please keep that in mind.  They have a very limited talking ability but make a very fun small-medium sized pet bird.  All our hand raised Sun Conures are weaned onto fresh fruit and vegetables, our very own Premium Bird Seed Mix and Vetafarm Parrot Essential Pellets.

Hand Raised Cockatiels

Impulse Parrots have a couple of pairs of Cockatiels that often have young. I sometimes choose to hand raise these young. Cockatiels make great starter pet birds for children and adults alike and the males have a good ability to talk and whistle.

I currently have no Cockatiels available or for sale.

We usually only hand raise 2-3 Long Billed Corellas per year.

Hand Raised Alexandrines

Alexandrines are also known as Alex's and are playful, energetic, impartial, and may also develop into superb mimics with a fanstasic clear talking ability.

Alexandrine parrots are usually not as cuddly as a Galah, however they're very clever and interactive. They must be socialized or they could turn out to be aggressive and one-person birds. And despite the fact that they're more independent than another species of birds, they do require loads of time and human interaction.  Like many parrots, Alexandrines are vulnerable to feather plucking and aggression if not given the right amount of attention.

Alex's LOVE to chew and play in water. Their favourite chew toy is anything wooden and they usually like to take baths, especially in their water dishes after a fresh bowl. So, chances are you'll need to plan on changing toys often and ensuring your Alexandrine doesn't chew your furniture.

Why We Don’t Sell Unweaned Birds

Not a week goes by in breeding season that we aren't asked by someone if we will sell a chick out of the nest or let it go to its new home before it is weaned.  They use the excuse "oh but I've been told that it will bond better with me if I get it before it weaned"..... WRONG!!!! and here is why.

Hand Raised Short Billed Corella Chicks by Impulse ParrotsPrior to being weaned, a young chicks life revolves solely around survival.  Its primary focus is on when its parents are going to return to give it food and then it needs to compete with its siblings to make sure its seen and heard for the parents to feed it.  The chick does not care about making friends or bonding with its parents at this stage because it is too busy focusing on surviving and getting to the stage it is weaned and independent.

Hand Raised Sun ConuresOnce it has finally reached fledging age (has left the nest and learnt to fly) it may still depend a small amount on its parents for food but its life survival instincts are starting to kick in and its searching for its own food and learning some important life skills to help it survive in the big wide world (are you sensing a theme here?).

The real kicker at the end is that once its made it to this stage and gained its full independence from its parents, it will then typically leave them far far behind and be off finding its own place in the world.  Its at this stage that the young birds are most open to change and its the best window to be introduced to a new home and people.

Hand Raised Eastern Galah by Impulse ParrotsSo you want to buy a young bird or chick out of the nest prior to it being weaned?  Save yourself the heartache and drama and let the experienced and professional hand raisers deal with the hard part (safely and healthily weaning a young chick is hard on both the chick and the hand raiser!).  Get your hand raised companion parrots shortly after it is weaned to have be best chance at the new family member bonding with you and the rest of your family and adapting to a new environment without too much stress.
